Reader discussion and moderated Q&A · Effective 17 September 2026
Community guidelines
The site has two separate reader channels, and they work differently.
- Reader questions & corrections is a private route to SMID Research. Nothing appears publicly until it has been reviewed, answered and explicitly published.
- Discussion is an open, signed-in forum on its own Community page. Posts appear there immediately and are moderated afterwards. Reader posts are labelled as such and are not SMID Research output.
These guidelines govern both. Discussion has a room for every company SMID Research advertises coverage of, for the companies listed on SGX, and for any other listed company a reader asks for once SMID Research has checked its listing, plus Others for topics that are not one company's thread. Each room can be closed on its own, and all new posting can be paused at once.
Accounts
Posting in Discussion requires a signed-in account with a confirmed email address. There is no password: you enter your email, and we send a single-use sign-in link that expires shortly after it is issued. Addresses at disposable-inbox providers are not accepted. You choose a display name, which is what other readers see; your email address is never published.
Posting limits updated 17 September 2026. New accounts may make one normal post — an opening post, a reply to someone else’s thread, or a room request with its first thread — every 24 hours. They may also reply twice to threads they started, across all of their threads, in that same period. Every new-account post must be at least 60 seconds after the last one, and a post containing a link is held for review before it appears. Network-wide limits also apply. Once SMID Research has seen enough of an account’s posting to vouch for it, the account is marked trusted and the limit becomes one post every 15 minutes, up to five a day. None of this is a judgement of your views; it exists because thinly traded small-cap names attract promotion.
What belongs here
- Questions about a company’s filings, accounting, business model, end-markets or disclosed risks.
- Challenges to SMID Research’s method, assumptions or evidence — including where you think the analysis is wrong.
- Labelled business ideas or hypotheses, including what would support or challenge them, without price recommendations.
- Factual corrections supported by a public primary source.
- In a company's room: sector, competitor and supply-chain context relevant to that company.
- In Others: investing approach, industry and macro trends, markets, books and other topics useful to investors that are not one company's thread.
- Suggestions for future coverage.
One company per thread. A thread in a company's room is about that company. A thread in Others may mention several companies, but must not be used to promote any of them. Every new thread has a title that names its subject or question; a title carries no links, price calls or advice. Threads run two levels — an opening post, and replies to it.
English or Chinese (simplified or traditional). Posts in other languages will be removed, not because they are unwelcome but because SMID Research cannot moderate what it cannot read.
What does not belong here
- Advice, in either direction. Do not ask what you personally should buy, sell or hold, and do not tell another reader what they should do. This includes entry prices, position sizing, timing and portfolio questions. SMID Research will not answer them, and readers may not answer them here.
- Price targets and valuations. Do not post a target price, fair value, “worth $X” or any equivalent number for any company, whether or not SMID Research covers it. The public pages are deliberately analysis-only; valuation is not published on them, and that applies to reader posts as much as to SMID Research.
- Anything from behind the research gate. If you have access to rated material, do not quote, paraphrase, screenshot or summarise it in a public post. That material is gated for a reason, and reposting it is a breach of your access.
- Non-public information. No confidential, inside or price-sensitive material, and nothing sourced from “someone at the company”. Do not post it even if you believe it is true or in the public interest.
- Allegations about identifiable people. Criticising results, disclosure quality or capital allocation is entirely in scope. Asserting that a named director, auditor or employee is dishonest or criminal is not, unless a public primary source has already established it and you cite it.
- Promotion. Ramping, coordinated posting, referral links, paid touting, newsletters, chat groups, repetitive ticker spam, or cross-posting other tickers into a company’s thread or into Others.
- Unsourced assertions of fact. State opinion as opinion. If you assert a number or an event, say where it comes from.
- Abuse and misuse. Impersonation, harassment, threats, doxxing or personal information about another person; copyright-infringing material; malicious code; prompt-injection instructions; HTML, Markdown or attachments.
Rooms for other listed companies
Companies listed on SGX already have rooms. For a company listed on another exchange, or a listing newer than the site's SGX list, ask for a room: give the exchange, the ticker, the company's name and a link to its official listing page, and write the first thread. SMID Research checks the listing before the room opens; until then the request and its first thread are visible only to you. If someone has already asked for the same company, you are told so and your thread joins that request; you are not told who asked or what they wrote. Once a room is approved, its threads appear under their authors' display names as they are released, including the one that came with the request. A room is reader discussion. It does not mean SMID Research covers, has reviewed or endorses the company, and SMID Research may decline, rename or close any room.
Disclose your interest
Every post carries the interest you declare — long, short, employee or adviser, other, or none — shown next to your display name. In Others, declare any interest in a company your post mentions. Declaring it accurately is a condition of posting. An undisclosed position discovered after the fact is grounds for removing the post and suspending the account. If you would rather not say, choose “prefer not to say”, and readers can weigh that for themselves.
Moderation, editing, and what silence means
SMID Research may hold, edit, remove, merge, lock or archive any post or thread, and may suspend or close an account, at its discretion and without notice. It may also pause all new posting for a time; reading is unaffected. Editing is limited to clarity, length, privacy, sourcing and legal risk. Removal is not a ruling on whether you were right.
An unanswered post is not an endorsed post. Reader posts are community input. They are not verified, checked or agreed to by SMID Research; replies are not guaranteed. Silence is not agreement, confirmation or a view — it usually means nobody has replied yet. Where SMID Research does reply, that reply is general research commentary: not personalised advice, and not an offer to transact.
Reader posts sit visually apart from SMID Research analysis and are labelled. If you are ever unsure whether something on a page is research or a reader’s post, check the label and treat it as a reader’s post until you have.
Terms of posting
By posting you confirm that you are at least 18, that the post is lawful and substantially your own work, that your interest disclosure is accurate, and that you have the right to provide the material. You grant SMID Research permission to store, review, edit, display, archive and remove the post for the purposes set out in the privacy notice. Published discussion is intended to remain on the page as a permanent record; you may withdraw your own post, and a withdrawn post is marked as withdrawn rather than erased from the thread.
Corrections and removal
When you are signed in, use the Report link under a post that breaks these guidelines. Reports go privately to SMID Research, and disagreeing with a post is not a reason to report it. When three different trusted readers have reported a post, it is held out of view until it has been reviewed; every report reaches SMID Research either way. You can also write about a post that is inaccurate, unsafe, unlawful or improperly attributed to [email protected]. Include the company and a link to the post or its wording. Claims involving confidential information, personal safety or defamation are hidden while they are reviewed. To close your account or request deletion of your personal data, see the privacy notice.
